The Pilot Decision: Military or Civilian I was recently interviewed by FAPA.aero regarding my decision to join the military, why I chose to pursue that path, and what I would recommend to other people interested in becoming a pilot in the military. Like many people, I was introduced to the military by a family member who was currently serving, and for me, that person was my dad. He was an active duty B-52 pilot who served 22 years before retiring and was my inspiration for joining the military and wanting to become a pilot. I believe the biggest hurdle to people who are interested in joining the military is the fact that they don't know anything about it. From the outside looking in, serving in the military may be an intense and intimidating experience, preventing people from seeking out further information. The fact is, there are many different career opportunities within the military, outside of what you see on TV, and the same goes for becoming a military pilot. Ever
